Top 5 Steel Buildings from around the world

Steel is an extremely reliable material. There are many structures that were built using steel in the twentieth century that are still as reliable today as they were the day they were constructed. This is because steel can last more than 50 years without wearing out. Steel buildings are more cost effective then other building materials. They are also faster and easier to construct as they are custom made to fit. Here is a list of five of the most iconic structures that have passed the test of time.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889. It was named after the engineer that designed it, Gustave Eiffel. After its completion, it retained the record of being the tallest structure in the world for 40 years. The tower was put up using 7,300 tons of steel. Although the tower was initially constructed to serve as the entrance to 1889 World fair, it is now one of the most recognisable sites in France.

The Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge links Manhattan and Brooklyn. Built in 1883, it was the first of its kind to be suspended using steel. The bridge is used by thousands of motorists and cyclists to ross from one side of the river to the other. The structure is very strong as it has to withstand a lot of traffic on a daily basis. It is featured in many films, making it extremely recognisable in pop culture.

Buri Khalifia

By the year 2010 the Buri Khalifa was named the tallest building in the world. It has 164 floors and steel bars to reinforce the concrete walls. The building can’t be brought down by strong winds and other elements of bad weather because it has deep rooted foundations. The building has houses and offices that are occupied by famous people from around the world. Its windows take several months to clean.

Chrysler Building

This building was constructed in 1930 for an automobile company that has the same name. The structure has 68 floors. In 2015, that building was ranked fifth among tallest constructs in the world. It was the first structure to be reinforced with stainless steel. The exterior decorated with metallic ornaments that are made from stainless steel.

The Shard

The Shard is currently the largest steel framed building in the UK, the building was erected in 2009. It has a strong steel frame that is mounted with glass panels. The building has 95 floors, only 72 floors can support human life as the building is that tall.

Non-organic food production promotes the use of pesticides and chemicals which can pollute water and the environment by making their way into the food chain. Many pesticides don’t just kill the target pest, they can affect other wildlife by contaminating watercourses or disrupting ecosystems. In contrast, Organic farming doesn’t allow any synthetic pesticides and herbicides. Research suggests that if all UK farming was organic, pesticide use would drop by 98%! Meaning that organic farms are a haven for wildlife. In organic farming, natural alternatives are used to control pests and disease. Including crop rotations, encouraging natural predators, and good soil will promote better, healthy and pest free crops. Organic farmers are allowed to use just 15 pesticides, originating from natural ingredients including citronella and clove oil, but they can only be used under very restricted circumstances. Here at Buildings uk, we provide the very highest standard of...
